80-year-old bettor from Rizal wins P33-M Mega Lotto jackpot
MANILA, Philippines – An 80-year-old bettor from Rizal hit the Mega Lotto 6/45 jackpot worth Php 33,595,070.80 on Wednesday, June 12, and has already claimed his winnings at the PCSO Main Office in Mandaluyong City.
The winner, a long-time lotto patron, shared that he has been betting on his favorite numbers since 1995. However, on June 12, he decided to bet on random numbers, 07-40-25-08-30–39, which turned out to be the winning combination. “Dati nag-aalaga ako ng numero kaso hindi naman tumatama, kaya nung mga nakaraang buwan nagsimula ako na tumaya ng mga numerong basta ko lang naiisip,” he said.
When asked about his daily living, he tearfully remarked that he had been living on a 2,500.00 monthly pension, supplemented by occasional work as a house cleaner for his neighbors and by support from his family.
PCSO General Melquiades Robles offered valuable financial guidance to the winner, advising him to consider saving a portion of his fortune and venturing into business investments.
The new millionaire responded, saying, “Sa tanda ko na pong ito, iipunin ko na lang po ang pera at naniniwala ako na mas magagamit ito ng aking kapamilya. Ito na yong maipapamana ko sa aking pamilya at sigurado ako na magkakaroon naman sila ng maayos na buhay sa hinaharap.”
To claim lotto prizes, winners must sign the back of the winning ticket and provide two valid government IDs for verification. Additionally, they must comply with the 20% tax on prizes exceeding 10,000.00 under the TRAIN Law.
As per RA 1169, winners have one (1) year from the draw date to claim their prize at the PCSO Main Office in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City.
